"1.Shop wisely, choose products with less packaging and or a large percentage of recycled content it's packaging.
2.Purchase the extra concentrated versions of product like washing liquid, these products not only cut down on water and packaging but also reduce the need for transportation and distribution costs and energy.
3.Take shopping bags shopping. Limit your use of plastic bags.
4.Limit your use of paper towels use cloths for spills use cloth napkins where possible.
5.Reuse paper that has been printed on one side: kids drawings, shopping lists, even re-feed it into your printer for printer tests or draft copies.
6.If possible read web versions of magazines and news papers or if not pass on your magazines to your doctors and dentists waiting rooms.
7.Donate and shop in charity shops or research into your local free-cycle or online swapping services.
8.Buy long life items such as batteries and light bulbs.
9.Avoid all disposable products, for example disposable razors, paper towels, take-away containers, throwaway cleansing pads, cigarette lighters, non-refillable pens and foil baking pans.

"I know most of these are just common sense and I'm sure most of us do a lot of theses things already, but I'm also sure there is one or two of these points we could all work on.
I am working on taking my shopping bags with me to the shops, I have a cupboard full of bags for shopping but actually remembering to take them to the shops is another thing entirely."

"Get a "granny cart "for all your shopping. I know it sounds ridiculous if you are under 50 but it is so practical and eco-friendly. I bought mine 2007 for £10 at a local poundshop and I rarely use a plastic bag now. We even used it to carry our blankets and picnic stuff to the Lovebox festival (London). We travelled by tube and though folks were staring, many gave us the thumbs up as well.
For examples of funky carts, check out http://www.barnitts.co.uk/products/2_wheeled.html"

"Go 'granny cart' go !! I've been using one for about 20 years (& loved using my inspirational Nanna's as a child). Even have an 'official' licence' to use one now as I am well over 50 ;-). Every home should have one - they are an incredibly cheap (especially if you find a second-hand one) form of transporting shopping, and all sorts of other things. Had to replace the tyres recently (4 @ $2.00 each), but with no registration, insurance, etc. they are an invaluable investment."
