"I think the First American proverbs and stories are always profound and so clear and simple, conjuring images in the minds eye that live with you forever.
Lets discuss...What is your favorite proverb or story?"

"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children.
~Native American Proverb
A thought provoking sentence. It was Cooltribe founder Hess that told me this one,"

"Full version goes:
Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
we borrow it from our Children.
We are more than the sum of our knowledge,
we are the products of our imagination. ""

"My grandmother, Full blood Cherokee, would always tell me this as a kid;
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice."

"Another of her favorite quotes was that Great Spirit gave us two ears, two eyes, two hands, and one mouth. Therefore we are to listen, look, and observe twice as much as we are to speak."

""Being Indian is mainly in your heart. It's a way of walking with the earth instead of upon it. A lot of the history books talk about us Indians in the past tense, but we don't plan on going anywhere... We have lost so much, but the thing that holds us together is that we all belong to and are protectors of the earth; that's the reason for us being here. Mother Earth is not a resource, she is an heirloom.""

"Principle Chief of the Northern Alabama Cherokee tribe states the following:
"There is no such thing as 'part-Cherokee.' Either you're Cherokee or you're not.
It isn't the quantity of Cherokee blood in your veins that is important, but the quality of it . . . your pride in it. I have seen full-bloods who have virtually no idea of the great legacy entrusted to their care. Yet, I have seen people with as little as 1/500th blood quantum who inspire the spirits of their ancestors because they make being Cherokee a proud part of a their everyday life."
Wisdom is using the knowledge that you have and using it for the better of mankind."

""I do not think the measure of a civilization is how tall it's buildings are, but rather how well it's people relate to it's environment and fellow man."
