The awards are the most prestigious of their kind and celebrate holidays that make a positive contribution to the economy and conservation of the local communities.

They have been given the support of BBC broadcaster and author Simon Reeve, who explains the importance of ethical holidays: “Responsible travel is about spending your hard-earned money wisely and giving it to the people who matter.”

There are 13 categories ranging from ‘Best for conservation of cultural heritage’ to ‘Best in a marine environment.’ This year there have been three new awards added: ‘Best tour operator for local economies,’ ‘Best accommodation for the environment’ and ‘Best accommodation’.
