Scarlet by name, green by nature

From day one, brick-by-sustainable-brick, Cornwall’s new Scarlet Hotel is having its impeccable eco-credentials firmly built-in. The Scarlet opened in September 2009, on a spectacular cliff top site, overlooking Mawgan Porth beach.
Surely the stuff of Channel 4’s ‘Grand Designs’, this unmistakably Cornish, contemporary boutique hotel, will certainly have enough style and imaginative eco-spec to make Kevin McCloud salivate.
The new-build Scarlet embraces its stunning location both indoors and out, reflecting its natural environs through the sensuous use of materials and sympathetic interior design, all in keeping with the Scarlet’s eco-friendly promise. Meanwhile, day to day, the environment benefits from the hotel’s thoughtful employment of a biomass boiler, grey water recycling, rain water harvesting, natural air-con and sea thrift planted roofs.
Yet, whilst sticking to it worthy intentions, the Scarlet sacrifices nothing in the way of luxury throughout its public rooms and 37 stunningly appointed bedrooms and suites, featuring free standing baths, walk-in showers, ocean sea view and a balcony, private garden or private rooftop pods.
The hotel offers all kinds of relaxing diversions, including an Ayurvedic spa, outdoor log-fired hot tubs, rooftop pods and a natural reed-bed swimming pool.
Importantly, the Scarlet is a ‘grown-ups only’ hotel. “This is Cornwall’s ideal escape for adults, a chance to recharge batteries and getaway from the everyday” says General Manager, Nikki Broom. “Just a simple stroll through the landscaped gardens and down to the beach, breathing in the freshest sea air, does wonders for both body and soul”
Acclaimed chef Ben Tunnicliffe, heads up the 80 cover restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, using locally sourced home-grown produce. Alfresco dining takes place on the roof terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Every afternoon, tea is served throughout the hotel. A picnic service is also available.
Scarlet by name, green by nature, rates are from £180 per room, including breakfast and tax.
