Interflora Launches New Scented Rose Collection

Interflora Launches New Scented Rose Collection

Featuring a selection of unusual, scented rose varieties designed and arranged with fragrant herbs and foliage, Interflora 's latest range of stunning gifts is also Fairtrade certified.

Interflora sources some of its fairtrade flowers from the Osarian Farm in Kenya since 2008 and as a result support 5,700 employees actually work on the farm, but also support another 3,000 family members.

Karen Barnes, Head of Floral Gifting at Interflora, comments on the inspiration that led to the development of the range: “I was on a research visit to a Fairtrade Farm in Kenya in the Autumn of 2009 where I was presented with new varieties of roses that had been cultivated for their amazing scent. These were the most amazing blowsy blooms with intoxicating fragrances that reminded me of old-fashioned English country garden roses. I knew immediately that these were exactly what I was looking for, and that our customers would love them."

Dominic Weston (Head of Food Gifting), who also visited the farm at the end of 2009, writes on the company blog about his lasting impression of the farm: "I think it’s one of real fairness and a lot of common sense and that it’s a really good place to live.

They operate on a 48-hour week, which is great. They pay people directly into the bank. Everyone has their own ATM card so the money is safe and won’t get stolen. It’s a nice secure way of paying people.

There’s a sports complex and soccer stadium which was recently used by the Ghanaian cup team. It also provides netball, volleyball, athletics, darts and cycling."

So if you want to make a gift to a loved one whilst supporting fairtrade workers, the new range is certainly for you. The collection features four stunning hand-tied bouquets:

Antique Pinks (£34.99), Golden Glow (£34.99), Soft Pastel (£39.99) and Sweet Sunshine (£39.99).  All fairtrade certified.

Currently Interflora offers online 19 different fairtrade certified bouquets. For more information about the new Scented Rose collection visit www.interflora.co.uk or call 0800 43 43 43.
