BRITA announces trailblazing expedition to provide clean water to Nepal

BRITA has a vision that drinking water of the highest quality should be available to everyone and strives to give back to communities by funding projects that make this vision a reality.

This year, BRITA is organising an expedition to Nepal to build a well and water tank, which will provide a small community with a safe constant supply of clean drinking water and sanitation. Alongside members of the BRITA® team, members of the public are also being invited to join the expedition, giving them the opportunity to travel to one of the world’s most captivating destinations and enabling them to make a real difference to the lives of the people within this Nepalese community.

The twelve-day, hands-on experience aims to challenge the volunteers as well as helping to raise awareness about water issues in Nepal.

David Banfield, Managing Director of BRITA UK comments “BRITA has a history of supporting local and national charities and the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of a Nepalese community, providing them with safe drinking water, goes right to the heart of our core values”.

The project will be undertaken in Nepal where many communities have to travel great distances to access clean water and less than half of the population has access to sanitation. The project will partner with the Rural Community Development Programme of Nepal to ensure that is it sustainable and will form part of long-term development plans.

Neal Jones, UK Marketing Director at BRITA comments, “This project really captures the values that BRITA aspires to, both as a company and as a brand. Inviting our consumers to participate not only enables this larger group to increase the benefit to the community in Nepal, but will also increase awareness of the plight of such communities among a wider audience.”

BRITA has enlisted Greenforce; who specializes in not-for-profit conservation projects worldwide, to help to arrange the expedition, due to take place around the 26th September 2010 for two weeks (TBC). BRITA will be contributing towards the cost of half of the trip, with the other half to be raised through fundraising initiatives with the help of Greenforce.
